Hands Up for Paradise: A Moms’ Escape to Club Med Punta Cana

Growing up in Montreal many years ago, where winter felt endless and the cold could be downright brutal, Club Med ran a brilliant advertising campaign. It would open with a Canadian snowstorm before cutting to images of sun-soaked beaches and swaying palm trees, all set to a reggae tune singing, “Hands up, baby, hands up!” As if to say: raise your hand if you’re ready to trade winter for paradise.

Fast forward to a snowy November day in Toronto. The season’s first major snowfall had arrived, and there I was — hand up, passport ready — boarding a plane with my best friend for a much-needed escape to Club Med Punta Cana‘s beautifully renovated resort.

As a single mom of two teenage boys, this was my first vacation without kids in nearly a decade. It became a powerful reminder of how essential rest, joy, and self-care are for our mental well-being. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a welcome drink and a relaxing hand treatment, we felt ourselves slipping into vacation mode.

Having stayed at other all-inclusive resorts, what immediately stood out was Club Med’s unique balance of relaxation and energy. You could spend hours lounging by the pool, then jump into a high-energy aqua yoga class (far more challenging than it sounds!). Despite the resort operating at full capacity, it never felt crowded. There were always loungers available, tables with breathtaking views, and room to join any class or activity. Not having to compete for space added to the overall sense of ease and relaxation.

Our five days quickly settled into a rhythm. Mornings began with yoga as the ocean breeze drifted across the shore, followed by long, leisurely breakfasts overlooking the water. And for coffee lovers? This place is heaven. The coffee alone deserves its own review.

The most difficult decision each day was choosing between the beach and the pool. Fortunately, we managed to enjoy both. When it was time for a change of scenery, we’d wander to one of the resort’s bars for a cocktail before heading off to our next adventure.

One of our favourite experiences was the variety of activities on offer. I especially loved the Latin dance classes, which often flowed seamlessly into unforgettable beachside events, including a lively barbecue just steps from the ocean.

Then there was Circus School — an unexpected highlight and something my kids still can’t quite believe their mom actually did.

Harnessed in and climbing what felt like a thousand feet into the air, I grabbed the trapeze bar and attempted to hang upside down. Let’s just say it looked much easier when the professionals did it. Thankfully, the instructors were exceptional: patient, encouraging, and incredibly skilled. The experience was exhilarating, empowering, and a reminder that moms can still challenge themselves, take risks, and discover new strengths.

For quieter moments, we gravitated to the Zen Oasis, the resort’s adults-only sanctuary tucked away at the edge of the property. With its serene pool, comfortable loungers, and beautiful bar, it became our daily ritual — either the perfect place to begin the day or unwind before dinner.

As evening arrived, the resort transformed. The newly renovated spaces felt sophisticated yet welcoming, leading into Club Med’s impressive dining hall. Featuring multiple culinary stations inspired by Italian, French, Asian, Caribbean, and international cuisines, every meal felt like a chance to discover something new. The atmosphere was elegant without being formal, encouraging guests to linger over good food, conversation, and another glass of wine.

And the evenings didn’t stop there.

Live music, professional acrobatic performances, and dancing under the stars created an atmosphere of celebration and connection. It was impossible not to smile, laugh, and feel the mental load of everyday life slowly melt away.

A Few Tips for First-Time Visitors

  • Check the resort’s theme nights before you travel and pack accordingly. White Night is a must.
  • Try a variety of activities, but leave room for spontaneity. The true luxury here is not having a schedule.
  • Make time for the Zen Oasis every day. It’s one of the most peaceful corners of the resort.
  • Once you’ve had your adults-only escape, take a look at Club Med’s family programming. Punta Cana is absolutely a destination worth returning to with children.

Club Med Punta Cana delivers exactly what so many moms need: thoughtful service, effortless luxury, and space to reconnect with themselves.

Whether you’re travelling with friends, your partner, or your family, it’s the kind of vacation that leaves you feeling lighter, happier, and genuinely restored.

And honestly?

When winter arrives, you’ll probably find yourself with your hand up too.

See you on the beach
