2.5 hours from Toronto, right in the middle of ski country and just 15 minutes from Ellicottville, New York sits Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino. If you are looking for a winter getaway that includes skiing but is not 100% ski focused or if not everyone in your family skis this is a great option. Seneca Allegany is close to a few ski resorts including the popular Holiday Valley. Skiing / snowboarding and other winter sports can either be done at Holimont, a private members club which offer some public days, or at Holiday Valley Resort. Seneca Allegany resort is just about 10 mins from Holimont and 15 mins from Holiday Valley.
If you are looking for a budget friendly family trip you will not be disappointed here. During the holidays we were able to find rates online for just $50 a night! When you see those online rates, jump on it, especially over holidays and long weekends. When booking directly at the property the same room that was $50 online during the promotion was over $350/night.
This property offers a good combination of adult and family activities including a casino (yes there is smoking), shows and entertainment, and a spa. The spa offers a selection of services but also has a sauna/steam room area that you can use on your own for a small fee. If you do a treatment you do not have to pay extra for the sauna/steam room. I recommend going early before your treatment to use the waters to maximize the experience.
The kids loved the heated pool, I loved that it was only 4 feet deep all around so if I didn’t want to go in, I could sit with a book and keep an eye on them.
We really enjoyed visiting the Seneca Iroquois National Museum and learning about the Seneca Iroquois community. There are tours a few times a day so check with them. If you are looking to ski and the kids don’t want to participate or you want to engage in some adult activities the museum also offer day camps.
Something I really liked about the resort is that there is Indigenous artwork all around the property. When they were building the resort they commissioned work from artists from the Seneca Iroquois community to paint murals, as well as other types of art that is placed throughout the property.
When it comes to food there are quite a few options at Seneca Allegany resort that fit a variety of budgets. You can have dinner in the buffet which is the least expensive option or if you are looking for an upscale experience you can dine at The Western Door which offers a variety of fine foods. If you are looking for a romantic experience then Patria is the way to go.
