Horseshoe Resort in Winter

We went up to Horseshoe resort for 2 nights and it was the perfect mid-week break.  There is so much to experience including downhill skiing, tubing, cross country skiing, snowshoe hikes, spa, swimming, even an arcade. It’s a great way to spend a few days not too far from the GTA.

If you can go mid-week I highly recommend it. Mid-week prices are around $130 for a standard room. That’s cheaper than what it would cost to put two kids in camp for the day.  And if you have your own equipment the mid-week rental prices are pretty good too. The best thing about mid-week trips is less people on the slopes.

We aligned our visit with a PA day and the kids only missed one day of school.  Right now the Canadian Ski Council have the ‘Never Ever Days’ program on so if you have never skied before it’s a great time to try. For just $25 you can get lessons, rentals and lift tickets.

To make the most of our mid-week trip, we arrived towards the end of the day on the first day and did some night skiing. There’s hardly anyone on the hill at night which, to me, makes it a perfect way to relax. I loved skiing while listening to the music under the moon. It’s a different experience than day skiing and I find it very relaxing.

We had one full day where we tried to do as many of the activities as possible but, after skiing all morning, we opted for the pool in the afternoon and then some more night skiing. If you are there on Thursdays they have a fantastic Tube & Dine program.

Our last day we woke up early and had a quick breakfast from the buffet and then skied for a few hours before checking out, driving home, and getting back to work. I like the buffet breakfast because you can grab something quickly and then get on the slopes. If you have dietary restrictions just ask the staff for accomodations. I couldn’t have the scrambled eggs because of the cow’s milk (butter) in it and they made me a separate order.

All in all this was a fantastic ski vacation very close to home with lots of activities to choose from. Highly recommend for getting away with the family for a couple days of fun!
